I bought this perfume my senior year during a college trip to St. Louis. We were seeing the sights and went to some…historical tourist-place or other…it might have even been in the arch? At any rate, I bought it because I was charmed by its packaging and its smell, and of course its promise…”The original potion for love everlasting.” I’m an enormous sucker for victorian-esque flora-and-fauna illustrations like this one.
The smell is lovely as well, as I mentioned: it’s very strong and sexy, but in a very warm way. I’m no perfume connoisseur, so I’ll just copy the “formula” they set up for the elixir of love:

“Jasmine. With buds that open by moonlight. The scent of dreams, imagination, longing.
Lavender. Like magic it both soothes…and excites…the heart of men. (Oh yeah, baby).
Artemisia absinthium, the ritual symbol of Lovers. Caswell-Massey’s time-honored way to add tempting warmth to fragrance.
Egyptian Musk, a fabled aphrodisiac. Once deemed so precious, only royalty could wield its rosy power.
Passionflower, the name says it all: Desire bursting forth in all its glory.
Softly blended, they create a beguiling web of scent.”

It’s very silly, but in such a sweet, romantic way, that I really love it. There’s something about these slightly frivolous, classic old romantic objects that I can’t resist. I consider it my signature scent, though I only use it for special occasions (including the occasional whim, like tonight). I wore it on my first date with Zeke, and…well, I guess it works, if at least on the wearer.
